This tube was used to demonstrate the momentum carried by cathode rays. The bombardment of electrons makes the wheel move on the two glass rods running lengthwise.

An electron beam emitted by the cathode is made visible by fluorescence from Hg vapor in the tube. The tube is placed in the magnetic field of Helmholtz coils, causing the electron beam to follow a circular orbit.

A light beam is deflected in two orthogonal directions sequentially by two mirrors mounted on electromagnetically driven tuning forks. The Lissajous patterns are observed on a screen. A few examples of Lissajous patterns are shown.

This oscilloscope was most likely produced in the 1970’s and was used to demonstrate the principles and operation of oscilloscopes. On one side it shows a diagram of the electron trajectories and equivalent optical rays, and on the other side it shows the diagram of the actual vacuum tube electronic circuit.

This Telegraph Transmitter/Receiver was probably used to demonstrate a practical application of electromagnetic induction.

Steam Engine Model

The Weeden Trade Mark Steam Engine Model was manufactured between 1930 and 1950. It was most likely used as a demonstration piece for Physics classes around that time. The model demonstrated the traction engine (static model) on a small scale and was a replication of the engines used to power threshing machines at the beginning of the last century.
